A new economic factor was evolving in European life. Despite flourishing economic conditions during the wars, along with peacetime came the post-Napoleonic depression. The depression brought along poverty, unemployment, and crime. Because of the great depression, taxes had risen beyond the reach of the working class. Citizens were getting paid less and everything began to cost more. This led many people to quit their jobs and start to riot which explains unemployment and crime.
